Derek Chisora has made a bold prediction regarding the potential matchup between Shakur Stevenson and Conor Benn, asserting that Stevenson would emerge as the clear victor in this welterweight clash. Following an impressive performance last Saturday, Stevenson, who has recently claimed the WBO super-lightweight world champion title, is now being discussed as a contender for his welterweight debut on British soil against Benn. At just 28 years old, Stevenson has already established himself in four different weight classes after decisively defeating Teofimo Lopez.
While Stevenson currently holds the super-lightweight title, he has expressed intentions to shift back to lightweight for title unification bouts. Yet, intriguingly, after his dominant win over Lopez, it was Benn’s name that came up in Stevenson’s post-fight remarks. Benn is gearing up for a return to the welterweight scene after a four-year hiatus from the 147-pound division, making this potential matchup even more exciting.
In a recent interview with FightHype.com, Chisora shared his thoughts on this anticipated fight. Although he holds a deep respect for Conor, whom he refers to as his brother, Chisora believes that Stevenson’s skills would lead to a one-sided victory. "It’s Shakur Stevenson. I love Conor, Conor is my brother, but it’s going to be a whitewash. Conor can apply pressure and all that, but if your legs aren’t positioned correctly against a southpaw, you’re going to end up getting hurt. You’re going to lose," Chisora explained.
He openly expressed his desire for this fight to materialize, emphasizing that Stevenson should come to London to face Benn. Chisora believes the bout would not only be compelling but also massive in scale.
